Pennant Hills Cherrybrook Christian Education Association Appeal – June 2018
Re: Unnumbered blessings give my spirit voice
It is people like Joost Gemeren that have kept the Pennant Hills Cherrybrook Christian Education Association (PHCCEA) going. Joost went to be with the Lord on 22 May 2018. He had a long association with the PHCCEA and was a key driving force which resulted in its beginning in 1985. Although he moved out of the area, he remained involved and interested in the association to the end of his life. We are grateful for the Lord’s provision in him.
I never asked Joost why he was so committed to the association. Perhaps the hymn sung at his service of thanksgiving is a clue:-
‘Tell out, my soul, the greatness of the Lord!
Unnumbered blessings give my spirit voice;
Tender to me the promise of his word;
In God my saviour shall my heart rejoice’ (Timothy Dudley-Smith, 1962)
The Lord’s blessings to us, particularly in Jesus Christ, overflow in praise. We cannot help but tell. The work of the Association tells out the Lord’s greatness to many students in our public high schools day in and day out.
We are currently considering a partnership with Generate Ministries to help us in compliance, administration and Human Resources. We have been careful to keep our members informed and to seek feedback before we make the final decision.
Last year I wrote to Joost asking him what he thought. He had many questions but wrote, ‘I can see that outsourcing the legal and administrative hassle is very attractive seeing that Government regulations get more and more involved. To have professional people to handle that and dealing with High School Principals on technical issues could be of great advantage as well as technical, skill and resources support for the teachers could also be of great value … I wish you Gav, and the rest of the executive, and the Committee, great wisdom and a prayerful mind regarding this. I too will continue to pray about it.’ It wasn’t exactly an endorsement but he understood why we are investigating this and committed to pray with us.
If the Generate partnership goes ahead it will bring our Association into a new chapter. However, the Association will still remain heavily local and depend on the generous support of its members.
The 2018/19 budget will be around $255,000. This would allow us to continue to operate in Pennant Hills and Cherrybrook Technology High Schools. We have set the goal of $130,000 in one-off gifts to be raised during the month of June (in addition to the ongoing regular support that we receive).
Would you please pray and consider how you might be able to help. The ministry of the association depends on supporters like you. Please find details below which outline the ways you can financially contribute.
The start of the association took the vision and tenacity of one man. The continuation and growth of the ministry takes all of us so that we may, ‘Tell out, the greatness of the Lord to children’s children and for evermore!’
Yours in Christ,
Rev Gav Poole
